How is your attention span?
How about your focus?
Both of these are important aspects of brain health and overall quality of life.
I bring this up because there are certain… powers that be… that are working hard at diminishing these capacities.
One of these is social media.
Did you know some of the most successful videos on TikTok are mere seconds long?
And I mean around 7 seconds, give or take.
Since we can train our brains, increase our capacity as we choose, falling for these 7 second tidbits will also alter our brain…
…just not in the direction that is to our advantage.
Another deterrent to attention span, focus capabilities, learning abilities is sugar.
Eating sugar daily actually impedes the formation of new neurons in the area of your brain called the hippocampus.
That happens to be the part of the brain that is important for learning and memory processes (and other important functions).
Eating lots of sugar also impedes neuron formation in the prefrontal cortex… where impulse control, delayed gratification, and decision making take place.
How can you make sure you keep your attention span and focus intact?
- Cutting out sugar is one good step (of course alcohol, too)
- Doing things that “force” you to pay attention for longer… like reading a book.
- Getting proper sleep (for adults that means 8 hours per night).
- Decrease stress!
- Meditate
- Detox
As usual, the healthy habits I recommend tend to support full body health.
The body functions as a whole, after all.
Support one part of your health, support all of you!
Detox can also play an important role in your brain health.
It is common knowledge that heavy metals, chemicals, mold, and parasites can all disrupt brain health.
If you want to know more about this, just click here and check out the courses on detox (there are three, they go from the “framework” to the “masterclass” to “detox and beyond”).
So let’s make sure our brains are happy and functioning well.
