Let’s continue with tools we need nowadays for natural health.
And as a reminder, it’s because of how toxic our world has become, as well as how sedentary we’ve become, that there is a big need for a lot of these different tools.
So today I want to look at water.
We’re over 70% water, so we have to drink water.
Notice, I didn’t say fluids, I do specifically mean water.
The tricky part here is that a lot of our water is polluted.
Drinking tap water is not an option, there are so many different toxins in there.
Some of the toxins you can expect in tap water include:
• Chlorine
• Pharmaceutical drugs
• Trihalomethanes (carcinogen) including chloroform
• Heavy metals like lead, arsenic, uranium
• Fluoride
• 600 disinfectant by-products (have been identified so far)
• Fluorosilicic acid (a by product of phosphate fertilizer), which is also contaminated with toxins and heavy metals, as well as radioactive materials
• DDT (while it was banned in the 1970s, it is very biopersistent, as in, resistant to breaking down)
• Hexachlorobenzene (also banned, and still in the environment)
• Dacthal
• Microplastics
• Glyphosate
There are other toxins contaminating tap water, some of that will depend on where you live.
Now, the problem with these toxins covers a huge range of health issues, such as:
• Cancer
• Infertility
• Hormone issues
• Skin problems
• Headaches
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Obesity
• Neurologic issues
• Brain damage
• Developmental delays / problems
• Digestive problems
• Autoimmune issues
• Mental health issues
Basically, every organ can be impacted, leading to nearly any and all health issues.
You can see why drinking water, which is vitally important for health, when it is full of toxins, is not going to be very helpful.
The problem goes further, because bottled water isn’t a better option.
Plastic is a huge health issue, so drinking water from one time use plastic is again toxic.
Also, some companies were found to just fill those with tap water, that’s a double whammy.
The reusable plastic bottles are a little better, but still problematic.
Even when they say BPA free, that typically means they just replaced BPA with BPS (which some say is more toxic).
This is where water filters come in.
There is a huge range of water filters, and the type you get depends on:
• What is in your water
• What works for your price range
• What your needs are
Whole house filters are the best choice, but are also the priciest.
So then you can pick and choose between shower head filters, under sink filters, counter top filters…
Personally, for the shower, I’ve been using the Aquasana shower head filter (super easy to install, I even take it with me on vacation).
For drinking and cooking water I’ve been using the Zero Water Filter for years.
This type of filter is definitely an improvement from tap water, makes it safe to drink, but I’ve also been eyeing a reverse osmosis filter.
For traveling, I’ve been using the Epic Water Bottle Filters (the only downside is, I can’t put my ReMag and ReMyte from RnA ReSet in it because of the filter).
Again, it depends on what is in your water to determine what is the best filter option.
For travel though, I do feel the Epic Water covers the biggest range, so I used it for everywhere in the US, Africa, South America, and Europe.
To figure out what is in your water, you can either:
• Go online and search “[Your city] water report”
• Have your own tap water tested, for this I recommend using Tap Score
• If you have a well, even a deep well, you’ll still want to test the water because our rainwater and groundwater are very contaminated at this point
I do want to add, looking at a city water report is somewhat limited. A lot more toxins can be present in your tap water, they just don’t look at everything.
When you do use a water filter, which is just necessary at this point, you now need to return minerals back into the water when you want to drink it.
The filters will remove minerals that we do need, there’s no way to separate that.
That’s why I always add ReMag and ReMyte from RnA ReSet.
Both of those are just massive game changers because most of us are deficient in these minerals to begin with.
Considering all of this, that does mean I never drink water when I go to a restaurant (a very rare occasion anyway).
Sadly, that also means coffee or tea aren’t much of an option either.
But if, for some reason, I do go out, I always make sure to take my Ion Gut Support first, to make sure I have an extra layer of protection against those toxins.
As you can see, something as simple as water has become a tricky topic.
I really can’t stress enough that getting a water filter (and using it!) are really important for your health.
And of course there are many more water filter companies than I’ve listed here, these are just the ones I use (and again, it also depends on what’s in your water).
