Who Started This? And Why Would We Follow?

This particular concept has been popping up a lot lately, so I figured let’s talk about it:

-> who started this idea and why do they want you to do it?

For example, recently a mom told me that people have voiced concern over her potty training her toddler at 1 1/2 years old.

Her toddler is responding really well to the potty training, so where would the idea come from that this could be “too soon” or be “bad for the toddler” ?

If you guessed “diaper companies,” then you are spot on.

The longer people keep their kiddos in diapers, the more money the company makes.

Am I suggesting everybody potty train their kids “early”? No, I’m suggesting work with your kiddo and where they are at.

Don’t potty train your child based on what a diaper company says.

But it wasn’t just this instance that brought up the “says who” concept.

Do you use fabric softener, scented laundry detergent, or air fresheners?

Who spent millions of dollars on convincing people what “fresh” smells like?

Companies like P&G … who know full well that all this scented stuff is fully toxic to us.

And then also sell products to help with the issues caused by those toxins…

… OTCs like Zzzquil to help you “sleep” better
… Prilosec to help against “too much acid” in your stomach
… Metamucil for “digestive health”

Without diving too deep here, but the chemicals allowed under the umbrella term of “fragrance” includes a variety of carcinogens, irritants, endocrine disrupters, etc.

So how genius to convince people that fake chemicals are the real clean smell, and then sell them stuff for the symptoms they can also get from those fake chemicals.

Most of you know I’ve been hounding after dryer sheet use for a long time…

… but really, it’s all the “fragrance” and “scented” crap out there.

It is toxic, it is harmful, and it is time we reclaim our noses and actual fresh air!

So who told people we need toxic, harmful chemicals for that “real” clean smell? -> the companies making money off it.

But here’s the thing, we don’t need to fall for it.

Being from Germany, not a day goes by where I don’t open the windows and air out my home.

While dusting is my most hated chore, I do it, because it removes toxins that are present by default, and it adds to clean air (same goes for vacuuming, but I’m fine with that chore).

Plus, there are lovely organic essential oils that can be used if you want a scent.

And while there are many more examples, here’s my last “who started this idea” for today:

Herbicides and pesticides for that green green green lawn.

Quite literally, you have companies telling you to eradicate “weeds” for that perfect looking lawn…

… and they know full well that those pesticides and herbicides are:

• carcinogenic
• endocrine disrupters
• cause neurological damage
• trash various organs we have
• destroying the environment
(and this is the short list)

And while you use these harmful products for that “perfect” looking lawn, they sell you products to “help” with the symptoms you get from using their herbicides and pesticides…

… all the while, those “weeds” would’ve helped your body heal when you used them appropriately.

Like the dandelion, one of my favorite flowers, has amazing healing abilities for:
• your liver
• regulate inflammation
• blood sugar balance
• antioxidants
• stimulating digestion
• very mild laxative effect (it won’t have you running for the bathroom or anything)
(just avoid this one if you have latex allergies)

So, who decided healing plants are weeds?

The companies making money on both ends by providing the poison and the “cure” for the symptoms that come from those poisons.

It’s just sickening to be honest, and again, we DON’T NEED TO FALL FOR THIS.

For anyone who has been to my practice here in Wyoming… how does my garden look?

There are zero toxins used on it. We purposefully allow natural ecosystems to develop that support the pollinators and the plants and everything in between.

That also means it’s totally safe for your kids to be barefoot here, it’s no problem if they eat one of the clover blossoms (also very healthy btw).

Ok, so here is my request to you: look at your day to day and ask yourself: why do I do this?

Are there products you use that are actually completely unnecessary?

Are there any societal pressures you follow even though they don’t suit you at all and may even be damaging to you by either toxin or mental stress load?

Really start paying attention! And then make changes as you deem fit.
