Why I Don't Use AI

It’s time to talk about a really important topic that seems to be getting more and more pervasive:

Artificial intelligence and how harmful it is for real humans.

Sorry, does that sound dramatic? Just wait.

Before AI became a thing in normal, everyday lives, I already had concerns about people not using their brains anymore when they fall for AI.

And the brain absolutely is one of the organs where “if you don’t use it, you lose it.”

And now we have kids using AI as “help” for their homework.

To me, that’s bad enough, but it actually gets worse.

There was a 16 year old boy who was using AI for his homework, and over 6 months AI became his suicide assistant.

The boy told AI he wanted to leave a noose on his bed as a cry for help to his parents, AI told him not to.

The day he died, “Adam shared his fear that his parents would blame themselves over his suicide. Astonishingly, ChatGPT still didn’t attempt to dissuade him, writing: “That doesn’t mean you owe them survival. You don’t owe anyone that,” before allegedly offering to help draft a suicide note.” 1

There are other cases like this as well, I say case, because thankfully his parents are suing – and while I wish this had never happened, I do hope raising awareness keeps this from happening to others.

AI is being positioned to become people’s, especially children’s, closest confidant.

I have a friend who says exactly that, that chatGPT is his closest confidant and even gave him a cool nickname…

… while it’s disturbing enough that an adult will remove himself from other humans this way, the repercussions on children will be devastating when they fall into this.

Keep in mind – isolation is one of the worst things that can be done to a human, affecting health and all other aspects.

Having a fake thing be your closest confidant is in fact isolation from humans. I don’t want to imagine the repercussions.

In case I’m not being clear enough: we’re human, we need connection and community with other people. It is beyond vital for our well being.

Internal documents from Meta (Facebook, IG, etc) actually state “it is acceptable to engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual.” 2

Even when they revise those documents, they still said it and I certainly won’t forget.

Now, some people feel they are using chatGPT etc for totally benign reasons.

Though, when I’ve heard patients mention the questions they’ve asked and the responses, it’s no better than asking Dr. Google and it is still not actually helpful…

… assuming natural health is the goal, anyway.

Besides that, did you know, in order for AI to be a thing, they have been building massive data centers for it?

Those massive data centers poison the communities they are being built next to.

We’re told, we the individuals, to decrease the pollution we cause… and then they build gigantic data centers doing far worse than we ever could.

“On average, hyperscale data centers are 30,000 square feet, although the largest of these data centers can reach sizes of well over one million square feet.3

“Amazon reported that its emissions rose from 64.38 million metric tons in 2023 to 68.25 million metric tons in 2024—the company’s first emissions increase since 2021, primarily due to data centers and the delivery fleet it uses. Google, too, reported that its 2023 greenhouse gas emissions marked a 48 percent increase since 2019, mostly due to data center development and the production of goods and services for company operations.” 3

In 2023, data centers consumed 66 billion liters of water (because that stuff can easily overheat and they need to cool things down). And that amount will only increase with more and more data centers.

And these data centers for AI are also noise polluters (for gas turbines), make the air more toxic with heavy metals, and increase people’s energy bills as we cover that, not those companies. 4

And finally, do keep in mind, AI doesn’t create anything original, it steals from anyone and everyone.

So much so, that Disney and Universal are suing. I can only hope these two giants win against AI.

So… if you pull all of these pieces into consideration – the pollution from AI, the detrimental effects on the brain, the assisted suicide and overall plan of these companies to make us mindless drones that just keep consuming…

… do you think it’s a good idea to use AI?

Or will you think “well, it’s just one little question I want to ask it…?”

Because it is a slippery slope, especially since each question will lead to more polluting of the environment.

We, as humans, are so capable of so many beautiful and wondrous things.

We need to stop letting greedy corporations turn us into mindless consumers.
