Let’s talk about “root cause.”
It has become such a popular term and is widely misunderstood.
For example, imagine a woman who has really bad menstrual cycles.
There are many people who will say the root cause for the bad menstrual cycles are wonky hormones.
But in fact, it is whatever is making the hormones wonky that is the root cause.
And the root cause is usually comprised of a mix of:
• nutrient deficiencies / toxic food choices
• toxicities – heavy metals, toxic chemicals, mold, parasites, EMFs, etc
• lack of movement / sleep / nature
• lack of chiropractic / acupuncture
And let’s not forget about stress, where all of the above exert their own type of stress on the body.
And yes, the foods we eat directly affect our health, and can certainly drive disease.
Now some will wonder about genes.
Aren’t genes supposed to be at fault for all sorts of health issues?
Well, when they did the human genome project, which was completed over 2 decades ago, they found humans have around 25,000 genes.
That isn’t nearly enough to actually account for everything that goes on with our health and bodies.
This slowly allowed for the understanding that it is our environment – all the different choices you get to make about your health – that drives our health and which genes are being expressed.
For example, take the BRCA gene.
This gene made headlines over a decade ago as the news claimed if you have this gene you have a huge risk for breast cancer.
Well… the gene itself is tumor protective, it has to be mutated to have the potential of causing a tumor (which some news outlets did touch on later in the articles).
And even more importantly, that gene has to be turned on to even do anything at all (this goes for all genes).
Again, whether a gene is turned on or off depends on your environment, ie the choices you make.
But people are often still hesitant to leave the gene theory behind on how it affects our health – after all, xyz health issue runs in the family!
This leads us to the next part: the gut microbiome (actually, all the microbiomes, mycobiomes, and viromes that we have).
The bacteria we have (and can’t live without) determine so much about our health!
From the neurotransmitters made in the brain (like serotonin and dopamine) to our ability to absorb nutrients and how well our immune system functions, so much depends on bacteria.
This does not mean that if our health is less than ideal that all we need to do is take some probiotics and we’re good…
… because even an unhealthy microbiome isn’t the root cause.
The question has to be: what harmed the microbiome? That will be the root cause!
And now we’re back to the list of root causes from earlier.
Because living in the same home, eating the same foods, etc is creating the same environment and will create similar microbiomes.
That’s where the xyz health issues that run in the family come from – the same environment.
Which means whatever toxins are around, the foods being eaten, etc are leading to similar microbiome function or dysfunction, along with everything I explained above.
Now, do keep in mind none of us are carbon copies of our parents, so individual variation can and will show up.
So big picture, health issues do keep stemming from these typical root causes of:
• nutrient deficiencies
• toxins
• lack of movement / sleep / nature
And this is why I have helped women be able to get pregnant with chiropractic, nutrition, EFT…
… and have helped many people heal from issues like chronic UTIs, migraines, mood problems, weight issues, digestive problems, menstrual problems, etc etc.
Our health issues come back to these root causes, we just have to suss out what it is specifically for each individual.
We’ll dive deeper into root cause soon, because it is very important to understand this concept to reach true health!
