A few weeks back, I got to have a prime experience of why I’m so choosy about brands and where to order from.
I had ordered a liquid carnitine supplement, researching to see what the purest form is and the right dosage etc.
When it arrived, it had a prop 65 sticker on the lid.
That surprised me, so I double checked the company’s website and the site I ordered from, neither of them mentioned prop 65.
I stupidly assumed it must be a mistake, the sticker must’ve been put on the wrong bottle, and started taking it.
As usual, I started with a lower dose, built up over a week’s time…
… I felt fine taking it, but over this time period I started noticing headaches at random.
Nausea cropped up a few times in the afternoons.
I gained 2 lbs within 2 weeks of taking it.
I explained it away because maybe it’s my period (not normal for me), or because I’m having a different technique done on me and things are shifting (still odd).
But then the nerve pain started in my left forearm.
That is the most solid sign my body gives that there is lead involved.
I stopped the supplement immediately, started all of my heavy metal detox programs, and reached out to the company.
Their idiotic response was that it’s a sticker because it’s only required in CA, and “a Proposition 65 warning does not mean that the product itself is unsafe…
… The Prop65 standard is set far below the heavy metal levels anywhere else in the world and is not based on scientific analysis for safety. So, products are still safe to consume.”
I had just done some lab testing prior to starting this carnitine, so I knew right before this I didn’t have any toxic anything.
And when I stopped the supplement and supported heavy metal detox, the symptoms were gone within less than a week.
So to me, yes, 100%, it was that supplement.
What’s wild is that the carnitine used is supposed to be the purest there is… so they actively mix another ingredient in that has the lead.
Since the goal with this supplement is carnitine, whichever other ingredient carries the lead isn’t actually needed, and yet they still mix it in.
Anyway, their answer was useless to me, so I reached out to Fullscript.
Oh boy, they take this seriously!
Fullscript responded very quickly, sent me an entire questionnaire about what happened, asked me to hold onto the bottle in case they need to do more testing, and immediately refunded the money (which I hadn’t asked for).
To me, it speaks volumes when a company takes a concern seriously, responds to my follow up questions, and actively takes steps to make sure the products sold are safe.
Back to my original point of reasons why I’m choosy about brand and where I buy supplements from.
Because it does get tricky, for example, CellCore BioSciences has prop 65 on some products.
CellCore BioSciences are upfront about it, provide the CoA for their products, and they know what’s in their product is organic heavy metals.
In this case (with CellCore BioSciences), that organic bit means your body can handle it because it’s natural and I have never had a reaction to their products.
In the case of the carnitine I tried, it clearly is inorganic lead, which our bodies can’t handle meaning it can become toxic to us as it accumulates.
Why this distinction? Because prop 65 doesn’t differentiate between organic vs inorganic heavy metals, making the labeling all the more confusing.
Am I more sensitive to it than others? Sure. Do I work with a lot of people who are more sensitive with this type of stuff? Yes! So I take this seriously.
This is why I’m always actively searching for supplement options, trying them out, speaking with the companies…
… and making sure what I recommend to you is going to be the best – including where to order it from.
Of course, it is always your choice what supplement / brand you take and where you order it from…
… but my recommendations do stand a solid foundation that I’ve worked on for years, because I want you to only take the most effective options out there.
I truly believe “unlimited healthy. unlimited you.” And nowadays, that does include supplements to achieve.
