Today I want to focus on our little helpers that we don’t give much thought to.
Actually, a lot of people downright demonize them.
I’m talking about bacteria.
Even viruses.
Our whole microbiome, essentially.
As humans, we cannot live without our bacteria and viral particles.
There are so many products out there to kill them off.
And yet, they are involved in everything from our ability to digest food, produce serotonin, and remove toxins from our bodies.
Granted, Dr. Semmelweis was spot on in 1847 when he realized the medical doctors really should wash their hands between being in the morgue and going to help deliver a baby…
But there is a huge difference between trying to sterilize your life non-stop vs washing hands at appropriate times (like after using a restroom… or being in the morgue…).
It’s all about balance, creating the right environment.
That includes the foods we ingest.
The types of toxins we’re exposed to.
The products we use regularly.
That means some of the healthy steps you can consider to support your greatest supporters include:
– eating probiotic foods (sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, kombucha)
– eating organic foods (herbicides and pesticides and toxic fertilizers harm our bacteria)
– reduce drinking alcohol
– eating prebiotics – leeks, dandelion greens, garlic, apples, jicama root, avocado, asparagus, onions…
– using non-toxic personal hygiene products / cleaning products
– get out into nature
Taking the above steps certainly are my preferred methods to support our bacteria.
But there are instances when supplementing with probiotics is important as well.
Personally, I prefer Systemic Formulas’ products for this, because they’ve done the research for years on which bacteria are involved with which functions.
That’s why they have Neuro Byome – probiotics to support the brain.
Immune Byome for specific immune support.
Byocrine Biome to support hormones.
Skyn Byome to give you the internal bacteria you need for healthy skin.
Anyway, you get my point.
And after the independent study done by NOW Foods showing that a lot of the supplements sold on Amazon have sub par potency or are adulterated or contaminated…
…it does push me even more towards the companies I know I can trust.
So are you already taking good care of your microbiome?
Which steps can you start integrating now?
And did you wonder why garlic, a known natural antibiotic, would be helpful for bacteria?
