Is Your Food Natural or Manmade

Are the foods you eat manmade or natural?

This has become a strangely convoluted topic.

For instance, there are people who’ll say that lemons and Hass avocados are manmade.

The human cultivation of lemons started about 4000 years ago.

There were two types of citrus, and humans started grafting to come up with a bunch of different types of lemons.

This is working within the parameters of nature.

Same goes for the Hass avocado… it was a graft from one type of avocado tree to another avocado tree.

In my book, they are natural.

Humans have bred for specific characteristics in fruit, vegetables, and animals for a long time now.

Pretty much all of our produce doesn’t look the way it did in nature originally.

But often it was using methods that work with nature.

In some cases, of course, it went too far with breeding for super high sugar content etc, but that’s a different story.

A great example of a manmade food is corn.

It’s estimated that 95% of corn in this country now is GMO.

They took corn to a lab, took genes from entirely different species (not even plants), and spliced them into the corn…

Nothing about that is natural.

This is not something that would ever take place in nature.

This is also how they made corn glyphosate resistant…

… which is a known carcinogen (and there are a lot of lawsuits going on over this now, but it’s use is still being continued).

Why does all of this matter?

Because food is meant to be nourishment, it is a connection to our environment.

Our natural environment is not a lab.

The food choices we make can harm us or heal us.

So I feel it’s important to be able to sort out what’s still a natural food and what is a fake food.

Simply put, GMO isn’t a natural food, or even a real food.

And did you know that baked packaged goods often have petrochemical byproducts in them?

That’s not healthy.

And that packaged foods are irradiated and it doesn’t have to be labeled as such…

That’s not healthy either.

Our best options are to find our local farmers and ranchers, go for organic food, heirloom is best, you get my point…

As a society we need to come back to connecting with our environment, and food is a major way to do that.

This is absolutely a major way to regain and support our health.
