We all know dental health is important. Many people even know that dental health affects your entire health!
But what if brushing and flossing doesn’t seem to be cutting it?
There is a very easy habit you can start to support your teeth, gums, overall mouth health, and even do some low key detox!
Have you heard of oil pulling?
It’s literally just swishing a teaspoon or so of your choice of oil in your mouth for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, you just spit the oil in the trash and do a quick Himalayan salt water rinse and you’re done!
My preference is coconut oil for this, some people prefer olive oil.
Coconut oil has a mild antimicrobial action, and can help balance the bacteria you should have in your mouth.
You see, when it comes to oral health, it’s not about killing bacteria at all!
You need to have bacteria in your mouth just like in your gut and on your skin, except these are all different kinds of bacteria.
All those dental products out there to kill off bacteria are a bad idea!
They create an imbalance that actually cause more dental issues.
So the oil pulling can help harmonize things for you.
And because there are toxins that are lipophilic, as in they love fats, when you spit out the oil those toxins go with it!
That’s why oil pulling is a really simple, supportive way to help your body get rid of toxins.
Oil pulling can take some getting used to for some people.
If this happens to be you, you can start with a smaller amount of oil to get used to it.
You certainly don’t need more than 1 teaspoon full, but some like to go with 1 tablespoon. It’s really a preference thing.
If 10 minutes is too much at first, just see how long you can do it for.
And honestly, if you’re in a time crunch and only have 5 minutes, well, then 5 minutes is way better than none.
Some people like doing this for 20 minutes. That’s fine, too.
Oil pulling can help:
- decrease inflammation
- reduce plaque
- remove toxins
- freshen breath
Of course, by supporting your oral health you are supporting all of your health.
And all of that in just 10 minutes!
Does it have to be daily? I mean, that would be great. But if you can at least do it multiple times per week that’s great, too.
